OPEN DOOR POLICY

Performed and devised in collaboration with artists TJ Galamba and Charlie Lennon.

Dress right. Act right. Flirt right. Text right. And for the love of Cher, if you don’t have a dramatic coming out story you aren’t worth your weight in glitter and you’re practically hetero.

But what if…. Stay with us…. That isn’t true?

Being queer means something different to all of us, and everyone’s journey of self-discovery is as important as anyone else’s. Join three queer artists as they explore what it really means to “come out of the closet.”

SYNOPSIS

Three doors. All white.

A circle, clockwise. Three people, trapped and then free.

A sash that reads “NORMAL” and a few hangers are illuminated by colourful LEDs. The performers interact with them… or are they controlled by them?

A girl sits with her knees to her chest, a boy walks down a seemingly endless hallway, and their friend defies the constraints of a gender binary.

This performance art piece showcased the stories, thoughts, and feelings of three queer individuals as they tried to navigate the meaning of ‘coming out of the closet’.
